&lt;p>This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Biophilic Town Framework in enhancing the landscape performance of residential precincts, focusing on heat mitigation, noise abatement, habitat provision, recreation, visual relief, surface runoff, water quality, soil erosion, and maintenance. While the Biophilic Town Framework has been developed and applied in some precincts, its actual performance remains unassessed. The performance varies across the landscape features, maintainability, and site context within different precincts, making it challenging for local agencies to provide well-informed design recommendations due to uncertainty about which areas deliver higher benefits.&lt;/p>

&lt;p>Urban heat has significantly affected not only physical but also mental well-being. Numerous studies have highlighted its impacts on physical health, such as thermal comfort, heat stroke, and heat-related mortality. Recent research has also demonstrated the impacts on mental well-being, like a positive correlation between elevated temperatures and irritability. How can we mitigate the negative impacts on mental health from a design perspective is challenging and urgent for many cities, like Singapore. The project will develop an innovative decision-making framework to optimise urban landscape for urban heat mitigation and mental health promotion. It will explore the relationship between urban heat, urban landscape and mental well-being, and automate the generation and optimization of design scenarios for human well-being.&lt;/p>

&lt;p>Balancing Dynamic Supply and Demand in Green Buildings: Intelligent Adaptation for Human-centric Building Envelope Design&lt;/p>

&lt;p>This project aims to develop an intelligent adaptation model for building envelope design that balances supply and demand across sustainability objectives using a multimodal control strategy. It will focus on: (1) the dynamic demands of human activity on energy use, carbon emissions, mental stress and operation cost in residential and commercial buildings; (2) the multi-objective supply of adaptive building envelopes for energy efficiency, carbon sequestration, mental restoration, economic productivity and implementation cost; and (3) optimizing envelope design to achieve supply-demand balance with multimodal control systems. Our preliminary studies with IoT-enabled climate-adaptive systems show potential for improving energy efficiency and occupant comfort. This research will improve and validate the system in Suzhou, China, delivering a customizable low-impact envelope design tool and a prototype integrating solar PV technology.&lt;/p>

&lt;p>This study adopts a human-centric approach to examine how urban greenery influences thermal comfort perception across diverse land use types, urban forms, and socio-demographic groups in Singapore. We do this via advanced methods such as the deployment of LiDAR for both spatial as well as weather measurements coupled with human based surveys and longitudinal tracking. Although the cooling potential of greenery is well established, the mechanisms through which different greenery typologies, urban forms, and social factors interact to shape human thermal comfort perception remain poorly understood. Addressing this gap, the study seeks to (1) assess how greenery affects thermal comfort perceptions across diverse urban contexts; (2) explore the role of individuals’ prior exposure to greenery (thermal history) in shaping their thermal comfort perception; (3) identify effective greenery-based design interventions for enhancing thermal comfort in high-density environments; and (4) develop decision-support guidelines and digital platform to help stakeholders optimize greenery for improving thermal comfort at local and microscale levels.&lt;/p>

&lt;p>This proposed research argues that the interplay between typologies, physical attributes and features of natural environments, and one’s needs, norms and beliefs differentiate perceptions and affordances, which then shape varying motivations and behaviours of usage that promote health. The pathways to explain such a relationship are complex and interactive; however, they remain fragmented. Better clarity can help draw comprehensive and targeted recommendations for the planning and design of natural environments that aim to promote health. Therefore, this research aims to address such inquiry by defining the following specific aims.&lt;/p>
